Lift Our Kids is a Coalition of over 160 Massachusetts organizations dedicated to improving cash assistance programs for the Commonwealth’s lowest income children and families.
Lift Our Kids is currently leading a campaign to Lift Kids Out of Deep Poverty by setting a floor for cash assistance (TAFDC and EAEDC) benefits at 50 percent of the federal poverty level.
“Deep Poverty” is income below half the federal poverty level – $1,110 a month for a family of three in 2025.
TAFDC is intended to meet families’ basic needs. But grants are still below Deep Poverty. As of April 2025, the maximum grant for a family of three is only $861 a month.
Grants are too low to provide for kids’ basic needs.
